Remote job
Senior Electrical Engineer, RF & Wireless Hardware (Chip-Down Design) | Remote Eligible | Relocation Assistance
Job details
About this role
Role overview
This is a senior hardware engineering role focused on chip-down RF and wireless design for compact, battery-powered devices that combine Land Mobile Radio, LTE/cellular, and broadband wireless technologies. The engineer will act as a founding member of a hardware team, owning radio architecture decisions end-to-end from chipset selection through mass production, and partnering across RF, systems, mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Own board-level implementation and integration of radio chipsets and associated circuitry across LMR, LTE/cellular, and broadband wireless technologies. - Translate system and product requirements into radio hardware architectures, evaluating chipsets, transceivers, front-end components, interfaces, and power tradeoffs. - Develop and review schematics and PCB implementations for RF transceivers, modems, front-end components, power circuitry, control interfaces, and supporting digital electronics. - Design and validate multi-radio coexistence, addressing desense, interference, isolation, harmonics, spurious emissions, grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC. - Solve hardware challenges associated with integrating regulated LMR frequencies alongside cellular and other wireless technologies inside compact devices. - Partner with antenna, mechanical, and industrial design teams on placement, RF routing, shielding, grounding, board layout, and enclosure-related RF performance. - Lead radio hardware bring-up, characterization, and root-cause analysis using spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, and power meters. - Drive designs through verification, regulatory and carrier certification, prototype and production builds, manufacturing ramp, and mass production. - Provide technical direction on radio hardware architecture while working with chipset vendors, external design partners, ODMs/JDMs, and internal engineering teams.
Requirements
- Seven or more years of radio hardware or RF electronics design experience and a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. - Demonstrated experience with chip-down radio design or board-level integration of wireless transceivers and modems, beyond integrating pre-certified modules. - Strong experience with one or more radio technologies such as LMR, LTE/cellular, broadband wireless, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or GNSS. - Experience designing and debugging RF circuitry including transceivers, front ends, filtering, matching, switching, amplification, clocks, power delivery, and digital control interfaces. - Deep understanding of RF coexistence, interference, desense, isolation, harmonics, spurious emissions, grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC in compact multi-radio products. - Hands-on schematic and PCB design experience using professional tools such as Cadence OrCAD and Allegro or comparable platforms. - Strong hardware bring-up and debugging skills using spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, and related RF test equipment.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-eligible with relocation assistance available. - Mission-driven environment focused on public safety technology, with emphasis on equity, inclusion, and accessibility in hiring. - Some roles may require legal eligibility to work in a firearms environment.
