Remote job
Mission Engineer - Tampa
Job details
About this role
Role overview This is an embedded, owner-level engineering position charged with transforming how a strategic public-safety account operates. Rather than a relationship-management seat, the role blends builder instinct, technical depth, and executive presence to ship working software onsite, drive adoption, and own outcomes across the full lifecycle of the company's device-and-cloud ecosystem. Success is measured by operational outcomes and production deployments at the customer's site, not activity metrics.
Responsibilities - Spend roughly 3–4 days per week onsite with the customer, discovering operational problems and translating them into compliant, buildable solutions tied to mission outcomes - Design, configure, and ship AI agents, workflows, automations, integrations, and data pipelines using the platform's products (evidence management, real-time intelligence, records, AI tools), tested against real users and real data - Take end-to-end ownership of deployment, adoption, optimization, and ongoing success as the accountable owner rather than coordinating others' work - Lead operational transformation: assess workflows, identify friction, define what to build before building it, and drive quarterly business reviews and mission reviews with leadership - Capture field intelligence — workflow patterns, adoption barriers, customer insights — and share them with product and engineering to shape roadmap decisions - Coordinate root-cause troubleshooting across product, engineering, support, and services when builds or integrations fail, applying responsible-innovation guardrails (CJIS compliance, evidence integrity, privacy) throughout
Requirements - Typically 8+ years in customer-facing technical roles, program management, operational transformation, or complex deployment environments - Demonstrated builder track record: shipped working automations, agents, workflows, integrations, or AI-enabled tools in customer environments, including configuring products and writing integration logic - Comfort spanning hardware, software, cloud, AI-enabled technologies, and integrated systems - Strong communication with both technical teams and senior stakeholders, including command staff in mission-critical settings - Full ownership mentality in ambiguous, fast-changing environments with competing priorities across product, engineering, sales, support, and services - Ability to obtain and maintain CJIS compliance and adhere to applicable security standards
Nice to have - Former law enforcement or military background - Experience in public safety, law enforcement, corrections, or other mission-critical operational environments - Familiarity with records, evidence, digital evidence management, real-time intelligence platforms, or integrated public-safety ecosystems - Background in forward-deployed engineering, solutions engineering, or technical account management roles
Benefits and work setup - Embedded onsite model with consistent customer presence (approximately 3–4 days per week) - Mission-driven environment focused on public safety and justice outcomes - Some roles may require legal eligibility to work in a firearms environment (not specified for this role)
