Remote job
Mission Engineer - Baltimore
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Embedded technical ownership role within a strategic public-safety account, focused on building and shipping working software that changes how the agency operates day to day. The position is not a relationship-management seat; it blends hands-on engineering, operational leadership, and executive presence, with success measured by production outcomes and measurable mission impact rather than activity or slideware.
Responsibilities
- Discover operational problems onsite and translate them into buildable, compliant solutions tied to mission outcomes - Design and ship AI-powered workflows, agents, automations, integrations, and data pipelines using real users and real data - Configure and extend the platform's evidence management, records, real-time situational awareness, and AI systems within the agency environment - Iterate in the field until adoption sticks, then document reusable patterns for other accounts - Coordinate root-cause resolution across product, engineering, support, and services when builds or integrations break - Capture field intelligence, workflow patterns, and adoption barriers and feed them back into product roadmap decisions - Maintain a consistent onsite presence (approximately 3–4 days per week) and lead quarterly reviews, mission reviews, and strategic planning with agency leadership
Requirements
- Typically 8+ years in customer-facing technical, program management, operational transformation, or complex deployment environments - Demonstrated builder who has shipped production automations, agents, workflows, integrations, or AI-enabled tools in customer settings, including configuring products and writing integration logic - Comfort working across hardware, software, cloud, and AI-enabled technologies in integrated systems - Strong communication with both technical teams and senior stakeholders, including command staff in mission-critical environments - Full-ownership mentality in ambiguous, fast-changing settings with competing priorities across multiple internal teams - Ability to obtain and maintain CJIS compliance and adhere to applicable security standards
Nice to have
- Former law enforcement or military experience - Background in public safety, corrections, or other mission-critical operational environments - Familiarity with records, digital evidence workflows, or integrated public-safety ecosystems - Experience in forward-deployed or embedded engineering, professional services, or technical program management
Benefits and work setup
- Long-term embedded assignment at a Baltimore-area agency - High autonomy over priorities and approach, with expectations set by agency outcomes rather than a fixed playbook - Eligibility requirements may apply for roles that involve access to firearms environments
