About this role
Role overview
Lead architecture and delivery for core digital products as a senior, hands-on individual contributor. The role combines ownership of a product area with technical leadership across teams, covering frontend, backend, data, and production systems. You will guide multi-quarter initiatives, stay involved in implementation and operations, and use AI-enabled development practices while remaining accountable for engineering quality and product outcomes.
Responsibilities - Lead complex or high-risk initiatives across teams by clarifying the problem, aligning owners and dependencies, and guiding work into production. - Set architecture and design direction for a product area, including clear boundaries across interfaces, APIs, data, and operational systems. - Write and review code, prototype solutions, debug services, lead migrations, and guide the long-term evolution of key systems. - Identify useful applications for AI, agents, retrieval, and automation; build reusable capabilities with measurable behavior and suitable safeguards. - Improve testing, performance, observability, security, and operational readiness, and help teams respond to and learn from production incidents. - Mentor engineers and work with product, design, and engineering leaders to shape roadmaps and connect technical investment to user and business needs.
Requirements - Typically 7+ years in professional software development, or equivalent sustained staff-level impact, including leadership of complex work across teams or systems. - Hands-on use of agentic coding tools for substantial, multi-step software work, with the ability to provide context, define acceptance criteria, and redirect weak results. - Strong engineering judgment to verify generated code, test assumptions, and spot security, scalability, and maintainability risks. - Production frontend experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and React; backend experience building services and APIs is also required. - Broad systems thinking and a record of improving reliability, scalability, maintainability, and user experience through technical decisions. - Ability to influence technical direction, build alignment without formal authority, and communicate tradeoffs clearly.
Benefits and work setup - The posting describes a US remote-optional role with location-adjusted compensation. Benefits include health, dental, and vision coverage; retirement matching; paid caregiver leave; vacation and holidays; learning support; and a monthly home office stipend.
