AI/ML Software Engineer

Role overview Contribute to a remote AI/ML engineering team building open-source models tailored for the nuclear energy sector. Work spans document understanding, retrieval-augmented generation, and domain-adapted language models that help plant operators and experts surface critical information faster. The role partners closely with national lab scientists and nuclear subject matter experts.

Responsibilities - Develop and implement AI models that understand complex nuclear terminology and domain-specific concepts - Design and optimize models for efficient document indexing and data navigation across large technical corpora - Collaborate with national laboratory researchers to leverage high-performance computing resources for model training - Build safeguards that mitigate hallucinations and bias during search and data analysis workflows - Produce robust, scalable, and maintainable code for the production AI platform - Contribute to open-source AI tooling and engage with nuclear experts to validate model accuracy

Requirements - Three or more years of experience in AI/ML software engineering - Strong background in natural language processing, machine learning, large language models, and information retrieval - Experience working in high-performance distributed computing environments - Familiarity with open-source development practices and version control workflows - Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with scientists and external partners - Commitment to safety and security when handling nuclear-related information
