Freelance - Senior Data Engineer (LATAM based)

Role overview Build the structured, governed data foundation that business teams, applications, and AI systems can rely on. You will make data consistent across systems, preserve its history and provenance, and provide secure access through certified tables and services. The work is hands on and autonomous, with close collaboration with business stakeholders and a client data platform team.

Responsibilities - Design and build production data models and pipelines on Databricks, including Unity Catalog, with data lineage and source information built in. - Reconcile entities and definitions across systems, resolving differences in identifiers and business meaning with stakeholders. - Model changing facts over time using approaches such as effective dating and slowly changing dimensions. - Implement incremental or change driven processing to meet freshness needs, and add pipeline quality checks and CI/CD. - Enforce data access requirements in production, including appropriate controls at both platform and application levels. - Build APIs or other services that provide trusted data to applications and AI workflows, and document and hand over work using client conventions.

Requirements - At least six years of professional data engineering experience building production pipelines and data models, including three or more years using Databricks in production. - Strong SQL and Python skills; able to independently write, troubleshoot, optimize, and refactor pipelines. Spark or PySpark experience is useful. - Strong data modeling skills, including history aware modeling, provenance, and lineage. - Experience with data quality testing, CI/CD for data, entity resolution or master data, and incremental processing such as CDC or streaming. - Production experience implementing access controls such as row level security, column masking, or role or attribute based access. - Experience building APIs or data serving services, sound independent judgment, and C1 English for direct remote client collaboration. - Regular use of AI coding tools, with the ability to review their output critically.

Nice to have - Multi tenant data isolation, security testing, or APIs and MCP tools for application access. - Finance or CRM systems, cross business data consolidation, or governance of documents alongside structured data. - Experience building shared semantic or metrics layers with business partners, or managing data platform costs.
