Remote job
Cloud Network Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A fully remote engineering position focused on designing, supporting, and optimizing secure network connectivity across cloud, hybrid, on-premises, and legacy environments. The engineer will troubleshoot complex network and integration issues, monitor performance and availability, and maintain accurate technical documentation within formal change-control and service-management frameworks. It is a hands-on infrastructure role well suited to someone comfortable working across cloud platforms, gateway services, and mainframe-connected systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and maintain authorized network connectivity spanning cloud, hybrid, on-premises, and legacy systems, including routing, switching, segmentation, DNS, load balancing, security groups, firewalls, virtual networks, and approved gateway services. - Monitor latency, throughput, packet loss, utilization, availability, and integration performance; identify emerging capacity or reliability risks and coordinate preventive or corrective action. - Investigate and resolve network incidents and service requests, isolating faults across applications, infrastructure, gateways, cloud services, and legacy boundaries; restore service or escalate as needed. - Maintain current network diagrams, address and routing inventories, configuration baselines, interface dependencies, monitoring thresholds, and operating procedures in approved repositories and ticketing systems. - Plan and execute approved network and integration changes through formal change-control procedures, including impact analysis, testing, rollback planning, validation, and change advisory board support. - Produce monthly reporting inputs covering connectivity, availability, capacity, incidents, change activity, SLA performance, breaches, root causes, trends, and corrective actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience. - At least 5 years of relevant experience in network engineering, cloud networking, or infrastructure engineering. - Demonstrated experience designing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise networks across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments. - Strong working knowledge of routing, switching, TCP/IP, DNS, segmentation, firewalls, load balancing, virtual networks, security groups, and gateway technologies. - Hands-on experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or comparable cloud platforms, including cloud-to-legacy and hybrid connectivity. - Experience supporting change management, incident management, root-cause analysis, and service restoration within formal ITSM processes.
Nice to have
- Background supporting government or regulated environments, including willingness to undergo a government-issued background investigation.
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote position.
