Role overview
A senior systems engineering position centered on applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to national security and space-based sensing initiatives. The engineer will construct digital models, evaluate architectures across space, ground, communications, and multi-domain segments, and produce engineering artifacts that inform acquisition decisions. The role is embedded with government leadership and cross-functional technical teams supporting mission-critical collection, targeting, and sensing capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Apply MBSE methods across the lifecycle of complex space systems, from concept development through integration, verification, validation, transition, and technical maturation - Build digital models that support acquisition activities such as concept definition, pre-acquisition planning, technology maturation, trade-space analysis, and technical decision support - Assess system-of-systems architectures spanning space, ground, communications, sensing, and targeting segments for resilience, interoperability, and mission alignment - Conduct trade studies, feasibility analyses, technical gap assessments, Analyses of Alternatives, and predictive simulations to compare collection architectures and quantify risk - Translate operational needs and mission requirements into acquisition strategies, design solutions, technical performance metrics, and portfolio-level engineering recommendations - Coordinate with government leadership, acquisition stakeholders, mission partners, and cross-functional technical teams to keep engineering products aligned with program objectives
Requirements
- Degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, with experience calibrated to degree level (for example, 8-10 years with a BS, 6-8 with an MS, or 3-5 with a PhD) - At least five years of hands-on systems engineering, MBSE, or digital engineering experience supporting government, defense, national security, or space-based programs - Demonstrated application of MBSE across the lifecycle, including requirements definition, CONOPS development, architecture development, integration, verification, validation, and technical reviews - Proficiency with MBSE frameworks and tools such as SysML, UAF, Cameo Systems Modeler, Cameo Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, or comparable platforms - Understanding of system-of-systems architecture development for space, ground, communications, sensing, targeting, or multi-domain mission solutions - Active TS/SCI security clearance

- Familiarity with Department of Defense acquisition processes, portfolio acquisition execution, technical performance metrics, procurement strategies, or government acquisition documentation
