About this role
Role overview Advance frontier AI capabilities by designing rigorous, deterministic architectural engineering problems used in training and evaluation datasets. This remote, part-time contract focuses on crafting STEM problem items that integrate structural, environmental, and building-systems considerations and that demand a single verified answer with a complete worked solution.
Responsibilities - Build advanced problems covering building systems, structural design, HVAC, lighting, acoustics, energy performance, and building physics - Construct scenarios that require balancing architectural and engineering constraints simultaneously - Author verified solutions and document the reasoning process step by step - Validate results using computational modeling, BIM platforms, energy simulation tools, or other engineering software as appropriate - Deliver outputs that are technically precise, reproducible, and clearly written in English
Requirements - Master's or PhD in Architectural Engineering, Building Engineering, or a closely related field - Research or industry experience spanning building systems, structural systems, energy performance, or building design - Strong quantitative and technical problem-solving skills - Solid understanding of building physics and the interaction of integrated building systems - Ability to design original, difficult problems that mirror real architectural engineering workflows - Excellent attention to detail and technical writing skills in English
Nice to have - Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, EnergyPlus, Rhino/Grasshopper, IES VE, OpenStudio, MATLAB, or Python - Background in sustainable building design, energy modeling, structural analysis, or computational design - Familiarity with BIM workflows, engineering standards, technical assessment design, or model evaluation
Benefits and work setup - Remote contract at approximately 20 hours per week, with compensation up to 40 USD per hour - Two-month initial project with potential extension and immediate start availability
