Product & Design Director

Role overview

This is a hands-on directorship for a designer who ships product, not just decks. The role spans the company's main web property, its web runtime, and a companion product, with the mandate to set the visual language and own quality from art direction through to pixel-perfect, in-production implementation. The setup is unusual: there is no design team to delegate to, and the design lead partners closely with AI coding agents to push work directly into shipped code, acting as the final quality gate on everything end users see and touch.

Responsibilities

- Define and own the visual and product language across the company's main web property, web runtime, and companion product, from art direction through to the last shipped pixel - Drive AI coding agents to implement designs directly in production, serving as the final quality review on visual output and user experience - Redesign an existing component library and its accompanying documentation environment into a coherent, well-documented design system - Translate product vision into sequenced specifications that AI agents can build against with minimal day-to-day supervision - Direct brand and story assets, including launch visuals, social and preview-card art, and explainer video work - Collaborate cross-functionally to keep the brand and product story consistent across every user-facing surface

Requirements

- A portfolio of shipped product software that real users have actually used, rather than static mockup decks - A working AI-driven workflow in which AI coding agents are part of daily practice, with confidence using a terminal and git-based version control - Working literacy in React, Tailwind, and Storybook sufficient to review and correct what agents produce - Strong visual taste and the confidence to act as the final quality authority on shipped work - A track record of operating as an individual-contributor director, comfortable shipping design and implementation work without delegating to a team
