Role overview A senior engineering role focused on building and scaling a manufacturing supply base for propulsion engines and mechanical castings. The position bridges internal engineering, quality, supply chain, and manufacturing teams with external suppliers to move designs from early development through full-rate production. It is a cross-functional, high-visibility position suited to someone who can drive both technical and commercial outcomes across multiple product lines.
Responsibilities - Lead supplier production strategies for propulsion engines and mechanical casting commodities, taking programs from new product introduction through sustained production. - Assess supplier facilities, workforce capability, factory layout, and capacity to determine fit for inclusion in an approved supplier list. - Partner with Supplier Quality Engineers to confirm suppliers understand and meet defined part-quality criteria. - Stand up new tooling and production lines at supplier sites, validating that materials, processes, and tooling can satisfy performance, quality, and demand targets. - Drive capacity expansion readiness, production ramp-up, and statistical process control reviews at supplier locations. - Identify and implement product and process improvements, including factory layout optimization, to reduce cost, lower supply risk, eliminate defects, and shorten cycle time. - Support root-cause investigations alongside quality and supply chain teams and ensure corrective and preventive actions are closed out at the supplier.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in supply chain, engineering, or a related technical field. - Six or more years of experience in supplier quality and industrialization within a manufacturing environment. - Hands-on technical expertise in propulsion engines, mechanical casting manufacturing, energetics, CAD, or GD&T. - Willingness to travel at least 50% of the time. - Ability to work onsite at company locations including Costa Mesa, CA.
Nice to have - Bachelor's degree in mechanical or metallurgical/materials engineering or a related field. - Background in defense, aerospace, automotive, or another high-tech industry. - Familiarity with quality systems, standards, and certifications. - Experience developing high-tech products in a high-mix, low-volume setting. - Comfort operating in a fast-paced, startup-style environment. - Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. - Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS clearance.
