About this role

Role overview

Serve as the enterprise technical authority for the safe manufacture, handling, processing, integration, transportation, storage, shipment, and disposal of energetic materials. The role provides senior technical direction across propellants, solid rocket motors, energetic components, missile assembly, warhead integration, and the facilities that support these operations, while advising executives and representing the organization with external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

- Establish technical strategy, governance, standards, and operating requirements for energetic and explosive safety across programs and business units. - Provide technical oversight for facility design, expansion, modernization, commissioning, production lines, magazines, storage areas, and integration facilities. - Review layouts, equipment installations, process changes, capital projects, procedures, and risk-acceptance documentation for compliance and inherent safety. - Lead or oversee process hazard analyses, process hazard reviews, explosive safety site plans, hazard classification, quantity-distance analyses, and related assessments. - Define requirements for operating limits, facility siting, lightning and fire protection, blast mitigation, and personnel protection. - Investigate incidents, near misses, and process anomalies; identify root causes and ensure corrective and preventive actions are completed. - Partner with engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, supply chain, facilities, environmental health and safety, real estate, and lethality teams. - Mentor senior technical personnel, monitor regulations and industry practice, and represent the organization in customer reviews, government audits, regulatory inspections, and technical forums.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, aerospace, materials, safety, explosives engineering, or a related technical discipline. - At least 20 years of progressively responsible experience with energetic materials, rocket propulsion, missile systems, explosive manufacturing, or defense production. - Recognized expertise in energetic safety with enterprise-level leadership across complex aerospace or defense programs. - Extensive experience with solid rocket motors, propellants, energetic manufacturing, missile production, all-up-round integration, explosive safety analysis, and risk management. - Demonstrated leadership of safety aspects for new facilities, expansions, or major modernization projects involving energetic materials. - Expert knowledge of applicable Department of Defense explosive-safety requirements, explosives-safety board guidance, OSHA process-safety management, and related standards.
