Role overview A Staff Threat and Attack Research Engineer role embedded in a security organization at a defense technology company, blending deep threat intelligence work with hands-on engineering. The position focuses on tracking sophisticated cyber threats, building tooling that turns intelligence into action, and partnering closely with detection, response, and offensive security teams to protect products and infrastructure.
Responsibilities - Monitor and analyze sophisticated cyber threats targeting the company's products, infrastructure, and personnel. - Research, mitigate, and anticipate emerging technical trends across the threat landscape. - Collaborate closely with the detection and response team to deliver timely, actionable intelligence for active investigations. - Partner cross-functionally with the offensive security team on product and infrastructure red team engagements. - Enhance internal tooling for threat actor tracking and intelligence data integration. - Build proactive relationships with external partners for joint capabilities and shared security objectives.
Requirements - Proven experience analyzing complex threat actor campaigns, including supply chain and infrastructure attacks, and developing long-term countermeasures. - Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Rust, Golang, or Swift. - Ability to prioritize and execute tasks independently with minimal supervision. - Strong professional written and verbal communication skills. - Eligibility to obtain and hold a U.S. Secret security clearance.
Nice to have - In-depth knowledge of nation-state, sophisticated criminal, or supply chain threats. - Experience creating file-based or network-based detection rules and signatures (for example YARA or Snort) for tracking complex threats. - Track record of writing production code for threat intelligence tools. - Expertise in large-scale data analysis. - Established connections within the broader security and threat intelligence community. - Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities and a track record of effective team collaboration. - Experience with Vertex Synapse.
