Senior Data Scientist - Payments (Inference)

Role overview A Senior Data Scientist role on the Payments team with a focus on inference, working remotely within the United States. The position centers on building, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models and inference systems that support payments use cases such as risk, fraud, authorization, and operational decisioning. It is a senior individual contributor role suited to someone who can move comfortably from research through production.

Responsibilities - Design, train, evaluate, and deploy machine learning models that power payments inference at scale - Partner with engineering to productionize models, including feature pipelines, serving infrastructure, and monitoring - Investigate payments and risk signals to identify new modeling opportunities and improve existing models - Build robust offline evaluation and online experimentation frameworks for inference systems - Communicate findings, trade-offs, and model behavior to cross-functional partners, including product, risk, and engineering - Contribute to the team's standards for code quality, reproducibility, and responsible ML

Requirements - Several years of industry experience as a data scientist or machine learning engineer - Strong proficiency in Python and common ML frameworks, along with SQL and data wrangling - Solid understanding of supervised and unsupervised learning, calibration, and evaluation methodology - Experience taking models from notebook to production and operating them post-launch - Familiarity with payments, fraud, risk, or other regulated financial ML domains - Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain models to non-ML partners

Nice to have - Experience with large-scale streaming or real-time inference systems - Background in causal inference, uplift modeling, or experimentation beyond standard A/B testing - Familiarity with privacy, fairness, and model governance practices in financial services
