Data Engineer

Role overview A senior individual-contributor role owning and evolving a core data ingestion and transformation platform at a fast-scaling fintech. The engineer drives reliability, governance, and agility across the data architecture that powers risk, lending, and finance decisions. The position partners closely with Product, Analytics, Finance, and Operations to translate business needs into trusted, accessible datasets.

Responsibilities - Lead the end-to-end design, deployment, and operational monitoring of mission-critical data pipelines against strict SLO/SLI targets. - Standardize ingestion by driving migration to a unified framework with CDC patterns, schema evolution, and automated quality checks across Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers. - Build self-serve observability through dashboards, alerting, and runbooks that help teams diagnose and resolve data incidents independently. - Enforce enterprise-wide data governance, RBAC, classification, security, and auditability across business domains. - Boost engineering standards with reusable pipeline templates, CI/CD checks, and local testing utilities. - Continuously optimize pipeline efficiency and introduce modern best practices across the data ecosystem.

Requirements - Four or more years of experience building and operating production-grade data pipelines, ideally in a high-growth startup or fintech environment. - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field. - Demonstrated system-design ability with documented trade-offs captured in Architectural Decision Records (ADRs). - Strong hands-on experience with Databricks, PySpark, and Delta Lake across batch and streaming architectures. - Solid software engineering fundamentals: clean code, testing, CI/CD, performance tuning, and Git workflows. - Experience with data quality controls, contracts, anomaly detection, fine-grained access control, PII classification, and stakeholder communication.
