About this role
Role overview Set the technical direction for a developer experience team building the web surfaces developers use to work with a realtime platform. Reporting to the CTO, this hands-on leadership role co-owns the team’s vision and strategy, guides a team of five engineers, and combines full-stack delivery with a strong focus on developer needs. The role also sets practical standards for AI-assisted engineering across the team.
Responsibilities - Partner with product leadership to improve how developers discover, configure, and use the platform. - Own architecture and technical decisions for the dashboard, documentation platform, marketing site, and billing interface. - Lead the team in shipping and refining customer-facing web experiences through close collaboration with product, customers, and engineers. - Establish effective day-to-day practices for AI-assisted development, including workflows and safeguards that preserve engineering quality. - Set expectations for code review, testing, and production readiness; take part in incident response and coordinate with infrastructure colleagues on deployments and dependencies. - Manage team performance, hiring, and career growth, mentoring engineers to take greater product ownership.
Requirements - Demonstrated experience leading engineers who use AI and language-model tools in their everyday development work. - Ability to guide AI use with evidence and sound engineering judgment, and distinguish practical gains from unnecessary complexity. - Senior, hands-on full-stack engineering experience and the ability to lead architecture for customer-facing web products. - Strong product focus and interest in improving the developer journey. - Experience setting engineering quality standards and supporting a team’s delivery and development.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first and flexible work. UK-based staff meet monthly at a London hub; the company also holds two in-person gatherings each year. - Equity options, 28 days of paid annual leave, enhanced parental leave, private healthcare, and a medical cash plan. - Home office budget of £500 on joining and £150 annually thereafter; £1,000 annual learning budget and dedicated learning time. - Wellbeing coaching and budget, life assurance, income protection, cycle-to-work support, and a paid one-month sabbatical after five years.
