Remote job
Staff Software Architect - Data Intensive Web-Applications - Personalization
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior Staff Software Architect position focused on designing and shipping a data-intensive web product end to end. The role combines hands-on coding for the most critical paths with system-level architecture decisions on Microsoft Azure, balancing latency, throughput, and cost. It is paired with a personalization-focused product area that surfaces large volumes of data through dashboards, reports, and exploration experiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead system design and hands-on delivery of a data-intensive web application on Azure, owning services, APIs, the Next.js layer, integrations, security, and load behavior. - Write production code for the most critical paths and carry them from design through deployment, ensuring latency, throughput, and cost targets are met. - Design how the product queries, processes, and presents large datasets, including modeling, SQL performance, caching, pagination, aggregation, search, and asynchronous processing. - Choose and document the system shape (modular monolith, microservices, synchronous, or event-driven) with explicit trade-offs across performance, consistency, security, cost, and operational complexity. - Set engineering standards for authentication, authorization, observability, automated testing, code review, and continuous delivery, including AI-assisted development practices. - Partner with data platform teams and ensure the application queries, secures, and serves data at production performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or another quantitative field; advanced degree is a plus. - Experience at Staff, Principal, or Architect level designing and shipping large-scale, high-performance web applications and backend systems. - Deep hands-on Java, plus Go and/or Python where they fit the problem. - Working knowledge of TypeScript, React, and Next.js sufficient to shape and contribute to the web application. - Production experience with Microsoft Azure, API and integration design, and distributed systems topics such as queues, events, idempotency, consistency, resilience, and fault tolerance. - Strong SQL, data modeling, and query optimization skills, plus NoSQL, caching, and search, with a track record of making data-heavy UIs and APIs fast. - Automated testing, CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and production diagnosis using logs, metrics, and traces.
Nice to have
- Analytics or BI products, conversational interfaces, multi-tenant systems, Domain-Driven Design, feature flags, and progressive delivery experience.
Benefits and work setup
- Performance-based bonus and attendance bonus, subject to program rules. - Private pension plan and meal allowance. - Health, dental, and life insurance plus medicine discounts. - Childcare subsidies, school materials assurance, and scholarship opportunities. - WellHub and Clube Ben partnerships, language and training platforms, and product discounts. - Casual office dress code, days off per policy, and transport allowance.
