Principal Software Architect

Role overview

A senior individual-contributor architect role focused on setting the technical vision for a healthcare data platform that serves health-plan clients. The position centers on turning architectural judgment into organization-wide standards across data, applications, cloud, and AI-assisted engineering, while mentoring engineers and solution architects.

Responsibilities

- Own and evolve the reference architecture for the core platform covering ingestion, transformation, distribution, and serving of healthcare data. - Set and enforce standards for multi-tenant SaaS patterns, high availability and disaster recovery, serverless patterns, and scaling across AWS and Azure. - Guide designs that align with healthcare compliance frameworks such as HITRUST and GovRamp from the outset rather than retroactively. - Architect payer-facing data solutions spanning claims, membership, provider, clinical, lab, and pharmacy domains using FHIR-based interoperability patterns where relevant. - Build the reusable application foundation including design systems, blueprints, integration contracts, and production-readiness gates that accelerate delivery. - Translate architecture standards into skills, rules, templates, and evaluation rubrics for agent-assisted software development.

Requirements

- 15+ years of software engineering experience with substantial time in senior architecture roles guiding complex cloud, data, integration, and application solutions end to end. - Demonstrated principal-level individual-contributor leadership setting enterprise architecture standards and mentoring without formal management authority. - Deep hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure, containers, Kubernetes, Git-based CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, observability, and secure production operations. - Strong experience with data platforms and distributed processing such as Databricks, Snowflake, or Spark, plus modern application architectures including Python, API-first services, React/TypeScript, identity and authorization, and multi-tenant SaaS patterns. - Working knowledge of agentic and AI-enabled engineering, including LLM-enabled applications and related frameworks.
