About this role

Role overview A specialized engineer is needed to advance quantum-resilient cybersecurity for a large federal agency program, focusing on cryptography, post-quantum cryptography (PQC), and cryptographic modernization across enterprise systems. The role combines deep technical research with practical migration planning and executive-level communication.

Responsibilities - Apply expertise in quantum computing, quantum information science, and classical cryptography to evaluate current and emerging threats to agency systems. - Assess existing cryptographic implementations, protocols, certificates, keys, and supporting technologies for vulnerability to quantum-enabled attacks. - Build and maintain an enterprise cryptographic inventory, then derive risk-based migration priorities grounded in mission criticality and data sensitivity. - Develop Cryptographic Inventory and Migration Plans outlining strategies, sequencing, timelines, and modernization priorities. - Translate complex quantum and cryptographic concepts into clear briefings, white papers, and recommendations for both technical teams and non-technical executives. - Track emerging quantum capabilities and evolving standards, recommending engineering or modernization actions to keep the enterprise posture current. - Support lifecycle and configuration management activities tied to cryptographic modernization, including requirements, risk tracking, and transition sequencing.

Requirements - Minimum 10 years of IT experience, including at least 5 years in quantum computing and cryptography at a large organization or government agency of comparable scale. - A Master's degree in a related IT field may substitute for up to 2 years of the required experience. - Deep expertise in quantum mechanics, quantum algorithms (e.g., Shor's and Grover's), and quantum information theory. - Hands-on proficiency with quantum programming frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, Quipper, or the Microsoft Quantum Development Kit. - Strong knowledge of cryptographic protocols (e.g., RSA, AES), PKI principles, and post-quantum cryptography standards aligned to NIST FIPS 203, 204, and 205. - Programming proficiency in Python, C++, or Java for implementing and testing cryptographic algorithms, plus familiarity with classical and quantum simulation tools.

Nice to have - Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Assurance, or a related field. - Industry certifications such as CASP+/SecurityX, CCISO, CISA, CISM, CISSP, CISSP-ISSAP, CISSP-ISSEP, GCED, GCIH, GSLC, or CCNP Security.

Benefits and work setup Salary range of $98,135 to $162,454 USD. Selected candidates will undergo a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; occasional on-site visits may be required. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, voluntary life insurance, 401(k), basic life A&D, STD, LTD, PTO, telehealth, paid holidays, FSA, HSA, an Employee Assistance Program, and traveling assistance.
