About this role
Role overview A senior individual-contributor position on a threat research team focused on dissecting adversary tradecraft across endpoint, cloud, and identity environments. The work applies formal research methodology to understand how attack techniques actually work, then translates those findings into automated attack simulations, detection proofs of concept, and engineering recommendations that strengthen platform defenses and customer protections.
Responsibilities - Define and continuously refine research initiatives, applying an adversarial mindset to evaluate emerging attack techniques, customer impact, and detection data sources across at least one major operating system and leading cloud or SaaS platforms. - Analyze the technical components and telemetry signals behind specific threats to fully map how adversaries execute and vary a given technique. - Engineer automated attack tooling, write test code that validates detection coverage, and build proofs of concept for new detections. - Partner with detection engineers, intelligence analysts, and threat hunters to prioritize research outputs and shape detection methodology and engineering roadmaps. - Document and present research findings to internal and external audiences in an accessible, actionable format, while mentoring colleagues pursuing research work.
Requirements - Foundational understanding of AI/ML technologies and experience applying AI-driven approaches within a security domain. - Deep expertise in adversary tradecraft spanning endpoint, cloud, or identity environments, with the ability to operate as a technical subject matter expert. - Demonstrated ability to author attack tooling, test harnesses, and proofs of concept in a relevant programming language. - Track record of producing public-facing research such as conference talks, technical blog posts, or webinars. - Comfort working with ambiguity, building new paths from scratch, and balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
Nice to have - Background mentoring junior researchers or contributing to a research community of practice.
Benefits and work setup - Remote position reporting to a Threat Research Manager. - Base salary range disclosed in the posting at $122,500–$175,000 USD, with benefits covering health plans, paid time off, parental leave, retirement programs, and education reimbursement.
