About this role
Role overview The Staff Software Development Engineer joins a client connector team building a desktop agent that securely forwards device traffic to a global cloud security network for advanced web filtering and zero trust policy enforcement. The role centers on high-performance systems and networking code in Rust, alongside platform-native languages, shipping features that protect thousands of customer endpoints.
Responsibilities - Design and implement high-performance, low-complexity networking code for the client connector, predominantly in Rust. - Build solid, easily testable, well-documented foundations that improve code quality across multiple desktop platforms. - Debug complex network-related problems and deliver solutions using systems programming and security protocols. - Contribute significantly to the design of major development projects, partnering closely with product managers and cross-functional teams. - Communicate proactively to solve challenging scale, quality, performance, and security problems at global deployment scale.
Requirements - Strong systems programming background, including virtual memory, multi-threading, process lifecycle, kernel programming, and system APIs. - Deep knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, QUIC, HTTP/3, and proxying. - Professional Rust experience, with working familiarity in additional languages such as Swift, C++, Objective-C, and Python. - Demonstrated curiosity and active use of AI tools to enhance workflows and problem-solving.
Nice to have - Software development experience in Swift and Objective-C.
Benefits and work setup - Location: Santa Clara, CA or Remote within the USA, reporting to the Director of Software Development Engineering. - Base pay range of $152,000–$190,000 USD, plus commission, bonus, and/or equity where applicable, and a comprehensive benefits program including health plans, vacation and sick time, parental leave, retirement options, education reimbursement, and in-office perks.
