Senior Software Engineer, Data

Role overview A senior engineering role focused on building the data platform that powers analytics, machine learning, and operational systems within a healthcare-focused technology organization. The position sits at the intersection of backend engineering and data infrastructure, designing developer-facing products that let other engineers publish and consume trusted data safely. It's a platform-building role emphasizing practical APIs, shared libraries, and well-supported workflows rather than one-off integrations.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and operate services and developer tooling, including APIs, SDKs, generated types, validation tools, and contract workflows used by other engineering teams. - Improve event-driven data paths using Kafka, Avro, and schema registries, with clear delivery semantics, compatibility rules, and safe schema evolution. - Build reliable batch and reverse ETL pipelines that move curated data from the warehouse or lakehouse into products and operational systems, with monitoring, lineage, and ownership defined. - Embed compliance capabilities directly into the platform, including data classification, masking and deletion workflows, access controls, audit trails, and policy enforcement. - Operate platform services in AWS through infrastructure as code, and improve service-level indicators, alerts, dashboards, runbooks, and on-call response. - Partner with product engineering, analytics, data science, security, compliance, and infrastructure teams to agree on contracts and deliver shared solutions.

Requirements - 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with meaningful work on backend, platform, developer infrastructure, or data-intensive systems. - Strong programming skills in Python, practical SQL experience, and familiarity with at least one statically typed language such as C#, Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript. - A record of building APIs, SDKs, shared libraries, data contract systems, or event publishing frameworks adopted by teams outside your own. - Understanding of schema evolution, data quality, observability, lineage, and access management patterns. - Comfort using AI-assisted development tools while applying rigorous review, testing, and maintenance standards.
