Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Role overview

A senior engineering role focused on designing and building the backend systems that power card issuing, transaction processing, and settlement at scale. The position emphasizes hands-on technical ownership of complex financial workflows, meaningful contribution to architectural direction, and the practical application of AI-assisted development across the software lifecycle. The role is remote-first for US-based employees, with the option to work in person from a Manhattan office.

Responsibilities

- Build and evolve scalable card issuing, transaction processing, and settlement systems that support high-volume customer experiences. - Design reliable integrations with payment platforms and banking partners, ensuring transactions move securely and accurately at scale. - Own complex technical initiatives end-to-end, making thoughtful tradeoffs across customer experience, reliability, security, and delivery speed. - Contribute to the architecture of event-driven, distributed backend systems built on .NET, C#, Azure, Domain-Driven Design, and CQRS. - Strengthen reliability, observability, and performance of production systems, including monitoring and incident response practices. - Partner with Product, Engineering, and Infrastructure teams to navigate technical tradeoffs and deliver against customer and business outcomes. - Apply AI-assisted development throughout the software lifecycle and mentor engineers through pairing, code reviews, and technical guidance.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - 10 or more years of software engineering experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining complex production systems. - Deep hands-on experience with .NET/C#, Azure Cloud Services, and distributed backend systems. - Experience designing systems using Domain-Driven Design, CQRS, and event-driven architectures. - Background building payment infrastructure, card issuing, or transaction processing systems, including platforms such as Stripe Issuing or comparable in-house solutions. - Strong understanding of reliability, observability, automated testing, system performance, and production incident management. - Experience navigating the security, compliance, and operational considerations of mission-critical financial systems.

Benefits and work setup

- Annual base pay range of $150,000 to $175,000, with potential additional bonus, commission, and a full benefits package; final compensation varies by location, experience, and other factors. - Remote-first arrangement for US-based employees, with optional in-person collaboration from a Manhattan office. - Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
