About this role
Role overview Design and build the backend services behind a consumer payments platform that powers physical and virtual card experiences. This is a hands-on senior engineering role focused on card issuing, transaction processing, and settlement, with end-to-end ownership of complex technical problems across the software lifecycle. The position is remote-first for US-based employees, with the option to work on-site in a Manhattan office.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and evolve scalable card issuing, transaction processing, and settlement systems that handle high transaction volumes. - Develop reliable integrations with third-party issuing providers and banking partners, ensuring transactions move securely and accurately at scale. - Contribute to the architecture of event-driven, distributed backend services with thoughtful tradeoffs across customer experience, reliability, security, and delivery speed. - Build resilient payment services that operate within evolving regulatory, compliance, and risk requirements. - Improve production reliability, observability, and performance, including monitoring, incident response, and early issue detection. - Apply AI tools across the software development lifecycle to improve engineering quality, speed, and problem-solving, and identify responsible opportunities to extend AI usage.
Requirements - Significant senior-level backend engineering experience in payments or another high-volume financial domain. - Deep familiarity with .NET and C# on Azure, plus distributed systems patterns such as domain-driven design and CQRS. - Strong technical ownership track record, from design through production deployment and operations. - Experience integrating with payment processors, issuing platforms, or banking partners. - Practical fluency with AI-assisted engineering workflows. - Ability to partner with Product, Engineering, and Infrastructure teams to navigate tradeoffs and de-risk unknowns.
