Software Development Engineer

Role overview

A senior backend engineering role focused on designing, building, and operating scalable, reliable server-side services and APIs that power large-scale consumer and partner experiences. The position leads complex distributed systems work in cloud-native, containerized environments and collaborates closely with product, data, and infrastructure peers to serve millions of users while elevating backend engineering standards across the team.

Responsibilities

- Architect, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, highly available backend services and APIs that support large-scale applications and platforms. - Lead the design and implementation of backend solutions that optimize performance, reliability, and observability across distributed systems running on containerized, cloud-based infrastructure such as Kubernetes platforms. - Partner with product, front-end, data, and machine learning teams to translate requirements into robust technical designs, providing guidance on trade-offs and integration patterns. - Champion engineering best practices including automated testing, code review, CI/CD, instrumentation, and operational runbooks to keep services maintainable over time. - Investigate and resolve complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive systemic improvements that reduce incidents and increase resilience. - Mentor engineers through code and design reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing to raise backend engineering quality across the team.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. - 8+ years of software engineering experience focused on backend or server-side development for scalable, high-availability systems. - Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating RESTful or gRPC services and APIs in a modern production language such as Java, C#, Python, or Go. - Practical experience with a major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and with containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes. - Familiarity with both relational and non-relational data stores and with messaging or streaming technologies for high-volume data processing. - Demonstrated ability to collaborate within cross-functional, agile teams through planning, estimation, and release practices.
