About this role
Role overview A senior software engineer position focused on building and maintaining the core infrastructure that powers an AI platform designed for government and enterprise customers. The role centers on designing high-performance, foundational components in Rust that support agentic AI and machine learning workflows across large-scale distributed systems. This is a remote opportunity based in the United States, with eligibility restricted to U.S. citizens or green card holders because of federal contract requirements.
Responsibilities - Architect and develop the foundational components, frameworks, and libraries that underpin the AI platform's core capabilities. - Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to gather requirements and deliver platform services that let other developers build applications on top of the system. - Collaborate with machine learning engineers to design and operate the infrastructure that runs ML workloads efficiently inside enterprise environments. - Provide production support and hands-on troubleshooting to maintain platform stability, performance, and scalability. - Stay current with evolving design patterns, technologies, and developer-experience practices that strengthen internal platform adoption. - Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture grounded in psychological safety, inclusion, and technical excellence.
Requirements - U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, required by federal contracting obligations. - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. - 5–8+ years of software and platform engineering experience, including design and operation of large-scale distributed systems. - Deep, hands-on expertise building backend and platform infrastructure in Rust, particularly for performance-critical services. - Strong knowledge of database architecture and scalable data systems, covering distributed databases, storage, indexing, data modeling, and high-throughput, low-latency access patterns. - Experience designing systems that support AI and machine learning workloads, with familiarity in workflow engines, execution runtimes, or AI orchestration frameworks.
Nice to have - Prior experience in early-stage startup or 0-to-1 product environments. - Working familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration. - Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for platform deployment.
