Role overview
A backend engineering role owning the core services that every other part of the product depends on. The hire will work on the realtime systems behind chat, calling, and media delivery, with the pager carrying real responsibility for keeping the platform quiet and reliable. The work spans latency, reliability, cost, and the trust-and-safety primitives that keep abusive traffic in check.
Responsibilities
- Own chat, calling signaling, the media pipeline, and push delivery - Design realtime systems that balance latency, reliability, and cost under consumer-scale load - Build moderation, abuse-detection, and rate-limit primitives that protect the platform - Carry the on-call pager and work to make each quarter quieter than the last
Requirements
- Five or more years operating consumer backend services at scale - Comfort with realtime patterns, observability tooling, and runbooks - Experience designing APIs that more than one client team has used happily
