Lead Realtime Development

Role overview

A lead realtime development role for an interdisciplinary production studio building immersive experiences for global brands. The position centers on Unreal Engine work for AI-driven virtual experiences, content creation platforms, and multisensory retail solutions, while providing technical leadership to a team of developers. It blends hands-on engineering with architecture, mentoring, and pipeline development across AR, VR, and digital twin projects.

Responsibilities

- Lead and technically mentor Unreal Engine developers across multiple concurrent projects - Build interactive realtime 3D applications including configurators, self-service platforms, and AR/VR experiences - Own technical planning, system design, architecture, and implementation for complex Unreal Engine builds - Ensure quality, performance, stability, and scalability of delivered applications - Continuously evolve the Unreal pipeline, frameworks, coding standards, and cross-team workflows - Run developer reviews and support the team on complex technical questions - Estimate effort and assess requirements together with project management, design, and 3D production - Evaluate and adopt new technologies and AI-assisted tools to streamline development and production

Requirements

- 5+ years of professional realtime 3D development experience with Unreal Engine - Degree in media informatics, computer science, or comparable qualification - Strong experience designing and delivering complex Unreal Engine applications - Excellent Blueprint visual scripting skills - Good to very good C++ programming skills - Experience mentoring and developing other developers - Confident with version control systems such as Perforce and collaborative development workflows - Experience with performance optimization, profiling, debugging, and deployment - Design-oriented thinking with strong sense of 3D, UX, and visual quality - Very good written and spoken German and English

Nice to have

- Experience delivering AR, VR, or MR projects - Cloud deployment, pixel streaming, or comparable streaming technologies - Virtual studio setups and associated hardware - Awareness of responsible AI use, especially around data protection, copyright, and confidential project data
