About this role
Role overview A senior or lead backend engineer is needed to shape the core of a fintech platform serving payment service providers, electronic money institutions, e-commerce operators, and open banking clients. The role centres on building secure, well-tested, high-performing backend services that integrate with a broad ecosystem of financial partners. Work is fully remote across Europe and similar CET-compatible regions, with a focus on craftsmanship in PHP and applied domain modelling.
Responsibilities - Design, build, test, document, release, and support new backend services end to end. - Evolve the existing RESTful API and backend systems to meet performance and reliability goals. - Integrate third-party solutions across acquirers, gateways, alternative payment methods, token platforms, customer verification and scoring tools, monitoring, and reporting. - Set up and run testing environments for new features, including integration and regression coverage. - Diagnose and resolve bugs in production code, and prepare clear technical documentation. - Pair with frontend developers and other engineers to deliver features efficiently.
Requirements - Several years of hands-on PHP experience with deep object-oriented programming skills. - Strong command of Symfony, Doctrine ORM, and RESTful API design. - Solid PostgreSQL expertise, including schema design, normalisation, entity-relationship modelling, and query optimisation. - Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes concepts, including their core components. - Applied experience with Domain-Driven Design, including Domain Events, Domain Services, and Bounded Contexts. - Familiarity with CQRS, Event Sourcing, microservices patterns, SOLID, GRASP, and common design patterns. - Comfort with PHP testing tools such as PHPUnit, Codeception, or Behat, and CI tooling like Jenkins.
