PHP Developer (SEON / Anti-Fraud)

Role overview A fully remote opportunity for an experienced PHP engineer to own anti-fraud engineering work for a financial technology platform serving payment service providers, electronic money institutions, e-commerce operators, and open banking clients. The role centers on building a true fraud-control layer rather than thin API wrappers, applying judgment on where and how risk checks fit into business-critical flows. It suits someone comfortable making independent technical decisions in a complex domain with incomplete requirements.

Responsibilities - Design and implement fraud detection and prevention flows that move beyond basic provider calls into full orchestration logic - Build and maintain anti-fraud components within complex transactional systems - Decide independently where SEON checks belong within critical business processes - Work with risk signals, rules, scoring, and decision-making logic to tune false positive and false negative rates - Translate external provider documentation into production-ready integrations, including transaction screening, device intelligence, and email, phone, and IP enrichment - Support manual review and case management flows for fraud operations

Requirements - 4+ years of commercial PHP experience - Hands-on production experience integrating SEON, including adapting it to multiple use cases beyond out-of-the-box integration - Background building anti-fraud, risk, or security-related flows, ideally in fintech, payments, acquiring, wallets, or other high-risk environments - Proficiency with Symfony or another modern PHP framework - Solid SQL and transactional systems knowledge - Strong grasp of REST APIs, webhooks, asynchronous processing, queues, event-driven architecture, retry, timeout, and fallback patterns, idempotency, and observability practices - Comfort working independently with evolving requirements and intricate domain logic

Nice to have - Experience integrating KYC or AML providers - Background building risk engines or orchestration layers, including familiarity with DDD, CQRS, and event-driven patterns - Microservices architecture experience and exposure to RabbitMQ, Kafka, or SQS - Understanding of authentication, identity, trusted devices, and SCA or step-up verification
