Senior Backend Engineer (AI Systems)

Role overview Join a small, fast-moving team building an AI-driven support engineer product that autonomously triages, routes, and resolves complex customer cases, while also generating post-mortems and surfacing insights for engineering, support, and product teams. This is a senior backend role with end-to-end ownership across APIs, data models, and background workflows in an early-stage environment where architectural decisions still matter.

Responsibilities - Own vertical slices end-to-end with a backend emphasis, from design through production operation. - Design and evolve typed HTTP APIs that are fast, well-documented, and maintainable. - Operate background workers (idempotency, retries, scheduling) to power durable workflows and integrations. - Evolve Postgres schemas safely through migrations and data backfills with strong transactional integrity. - Instrument systems with logs, metrics, and tracing; take responsibility for reliability and production behavior. - Ship changes through CI/CD pipelines and collaborate with product and design, occasionally building minimal UIs to unblock learning.

Requirements - Strong backend foundations across HTTP, SQL, transactions, indexing, and caching. - Hands-on experience or strong willingness to learn Django/Ninja, Postgres, typed Python, and pytest. - Comfort with containerized development using Makefiles, Docker Compose, and CI/CD pipelines. - Care for high-level system architecture and long-term system evolution. - Clear written communication, with a habit of documenting decisions and shipping in small slices. - A "you build it, you run it" mentality and domain-driven design instincts.

Nice to have - Familiarity with Redis, search basics, or realtime features (Channels/WebSockets). - Infrastructure-as-code and cloud experience. - Comfort with modern frontend (React/Next/TypeScript/Tailwind). - LLM product experience including evaluations, cost and latency controls, vector search, and knowledge graphs. - Exposure to or interest in event sourcing architectures.
