Remote job
Systems Engineer - Behavior Verification
Job details
About this role
Role overview This systems engineering role helps determine whether autonomous driving software behaves safely enough to progress through release. You will build and maintain the scenarios, test sets, and evidence used to measure behavior, while coordinating verification work across engineering and operational teams.
Responsibilities - Define and document scenario and test-set coverage, from baseline checks to broader evaluations. - Validate test sets and decide whether they are ready to enter the release evaluation process. - Monitor the quality of scenarios, tagging, grading, and classification systems that support testing. - Translate behavior requirements into measurable acceptance criteria with the teams responsible for defining them. - Investigate behavior gaps, find additional examples, assess exposure, and feed test escapes back into the evaluation pipeline. - Separate software behavior failures from simulation limitations and coordinate verification cadence across teams.
Requirements - Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, robotics, controls, aerospace, or a related field. - Experience verifying safety-critical systems; autonomous vehicle experience is especially relevant. - Ability to design requirement-based tests and assess test coverage and gaps. - Applied statistical judgment, including sample size and confidence, and the limits of test results. - Proficiency in Python and comfort working in a large codebase. - Familiarity with autonomous vehicle requirements and behavior design, plus strong documentation and cross-team communication skills.
Nice to have - Experience with trucks or other heavy vehicles, or with machine learning evaluation and false-positive/false-negative trade-offs. - Exposure to NHTSA, ISO 26262, or SOTIF frameworks, and tools for measuring coverage in large driving-log collections. - Comfort creating processes in a newly formed team.
