Software Development Manager

Role overview A software development manager leads a team of five to eight engineers responsible for modernizing a mature, business-critical product. The position owns team development and roadmap delivery while remaining technically involved, including guiding the adoption of AI-assisted and agent-driven development practices and measuring their effect on quality and delivery.

Responsibilities - Hire, coach, and develop engineers; set goals, conduct reviews, and support career growth. - Plan capacity, manage delivery risks, and make trade-offs among scope, quality, and team health. - Improve engineering processes to support higher-quality, more predictable releases. - Lead the evolution toward agent-driven development and assess results in throughput and quality. - Promote responsible and secure use of AI tools as practices evolve. - Review designs and code, and spend roughly 10–30% of the role coding on prototypes, investigations, and team support. - Work with product and partner teams to shape requirements, designs, releases, and customer issue resolution.

Requirements - Seven or more years in software engineering, including at least two years leading or managing engineers. - A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience. - Experience developing people through coaching, feedback, and career planning. - Experience owning delivery commitments, capacity planning, and risk management. - Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and a considered view of how to use them. - Proficiency with Angular or React and TypeScript, plus C#/.NET; experience with Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server. - Experience leading an Agile team using approaches such as Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe.
