Development Manager
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead the day-to-day development of a cloud-based commodity trading and risk platform used for trading, logistics, billing, financial integrations, and compliance. This is a hands-on team leadership role: you’ll guide delivery and technical decisions, stay close to code and production issues, and help improve reliability in a customer-facing environment where service continuity matters.
A central part of the role is modernizing how the team builds and tests software. You’ll expand automated testing and introduce AI-assisted development practices with sound engineering standards and human oversight.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate development, QA, and DevOps work across onshore and offshore contributors; shape sprint plans, allocate work, and provide performance feedback. - Work with product and business leads to turn priorities into practical delivery plans and sound technical choices. - Review code, troubleshoot defects, and contribute directly when that will unblock delivery or improve quality. - Increase automated test coverage, reduce manual regression work, and apply AI-assisted test creation and maintenance where useful. - Introduce coding assistants and AI-supported review, documentation, and legacy migration, establishing team practices and guardrails. - Improve CI/CD, release quality, uptime, performance, and operational resilience; raise material product, staffing, platform, or investment decisions to leadership.
Requirements
- Experience as a technical lead, senior developer coordinating delivery, or development manager; this may be a first formal people-management role. - Strong working knowledge of C# and .NET, SQL Server, Entity Framework, and SaaS or containerized software delivery. - Production experience with a modern UI framework such as React, Blazor, or ASP.NET MVC, plus external-system integrations. - Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, microservices, layered application design, relational and document databases, and containerized cloud deployment. - Practical Agile or Scrum delivery, CI/CD, and automated testing integrated into a development pipeline. - Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development in a working team, with good judgment about its benefits and limitations. - Clear communication, ownership of shipped outcomes, and the ability to stay organized during competing priorities and customer escalations.
Nice to have
- Experience improving throughput, availability, and resilience in cloud applications or supporting a high-touch customer product. - Knowledge of commodity trading and risk, or related agriculture, energy, or metals domains. - Experience rolling out AI tools across an engineering team, including agentic coding or AI-supported testing in a compliance-sensitive setting.
