Lead Systems Architect, High-Speed Modems

Role overview Lead the system architecture and development of high-speed modem solutions for space, optical, and terrestrial communications. You will own system requirements and guide multidisciplinary teams from early design through integration and verification, while working with customers and subcontractors on technical decisions.

Responsibilities - Define end-to-end modem and communications architectures, then decompose system requirements and maintain their traceability. - Lead trade studies on waveforms and implementation options, and track technical risks and performance margins. - Set technical direction across hardware, FPGA, ASIC, software, and systems engineering teams. - Coordinate internal and subcontractor development, and serve as a technical point of contact for customers and reviews. - Lead integration, verification, and validation; contribute to design reviews, proposals, estimates, and milestone planning.

Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering, computer science, physics, or a related technical discipline; a master’s degree is preferred. - At least eight years developing modem algorithms or defining, designing, integrating, and testing complex system architectures. - Expertise in modem timing recovery, frequency acquisition and recovery, automatic gain control, carrier or phase recovery, and forward error correction. - Working knowledge of digital communications, signal processing, and modem design. - Familiarity with Ethernet, optical transport, framing, and data-formatting standards, plus experience modeling modem algorithms in MATLAB. - Experience with model-based systems engineering and requirements-based verification.
