About this role
Role overview A product-experience software engineer is needed to build and maintain full-stack applications that give operators of battery energy storage systems real-time control and visibility over their energy assets. The work supports a dispatch-intelligence suite used by large energy buyers seeking faster interconnection and cheaper power, and spans both customer-facing interfaces and the backend services that drive them.
Responsibilities - Foster a culture of well-designed systems, test-driven software, and proactive, transparent communication across the engineering team. - Collaborate with product managers, UI/UX designers, and other engineers to develop intuitive, user-friendly software experiences for energy-storage customers. - Design, build, test, debug, maintain, and scale user-facing software and closely related components up and down the stack. - Integrate frontend components with backend APIs and render interactive data visualizations; implement backend APIs, middleware, and database integrations. - Manage authentication, authorization, sessions, and tokens using identity platforms, and optimize application performance, reliability, and scalability across content delivery networks. - Evaluate and recommend new software tools, systems, and architectures as the product evolves.
Requirements - Customer empathy and an obsession with crafting quality user experiences. - Hands-on experience in both frontend (for example, TypeScript and React) and backend (for example, Go and Python) software ecosystems. - Ability to translate complex product requirements into functional software and communicate fluently with both engineers and designers. - Commitment to delivering high-quality software on time or ahead of schedule while following strong development practices. - Continuous drive to stay current on contemporary technologies, tools, libraries, services, and frameworks that could benefit the team. - Disciplined use of generative AI tools in day-to-day work.
Nice to have - A bachelor’s degree or higher (not necessarily in a STEM field). - Senior or Staff level software development experience and a track record of technical leadership in high-performing product engineering teams. - Expert programming in TypeScript and Go, with advanced Python experience, and depth in gRPC and Protocol Buffers. - Deep knowledge of relational databases, SQL, and cloud storage such as GCS or S3. - Experience authoring and maintaining UI kits, design systems, and component libraries, plus a strong sense of UI/UX design principles.
Benefits and work setup - Base pay range of $150,000–$240,000+ (depending on level, skills, and experience), plus a potential equity grant at a high-growth startup. - Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance and a 401k. - Flexible hours and unlimited paid time off, with a San Francisco, CA location offering remote and hybrid options.
