About this role
Role overview
Join a product and growth analytics function within a digital-first lending marketplace that partners with banks and credit unions. As Principal Data Scientist, you will serve as a strategic thought partner to product, marketing, finance, and machine learning leaders, shaping how credit offerings evolve and how value is delivered to borrowers and banking partners. The work blends rigorous experimentation, causal inference, and foundational business understanding to influence decisions across an expanding portfolio that now includes subscription-based products.
Responsibilities
- Identify gaps and questions others miss, setting the analytical agenda rather than waiting for direction - Partner with leaders across product, finance, and machine learning to frame complex problems from first principles and define what actually matters - Design, build, and own technical tools such as forecasting models, spend allocation optimizers, attribution systems, and marketing incrementality frameworks - Lead end-to-end experimentation, from classic A/B tests to complex causal inference analyses, including hypothesis framing, design, and interpretation - Develop metrics frameworks and measurement strategies that help stakeholders decide what to optimize and why - Translate ambiguous, multifaceted business problems into clear decision frameworks and drive organizational change based on insights
Requirements
- Deep technical expertise in data science, including A/B testing and causal inference methods - Proven ability to influence without direct authority, communicating statistical rigor to engineering, product, finance, and executive audiences - Hands-on experience building analytical tools or models that are leveraged broadly across a team - Strong judgment to choose the right approach for each problem, whether that is experimentation, causal modeling, or foundational business analysis - Track record of owning work end-to-end, from scoping through storytelling and follow-through - Highly preferred: experience in at least one of forecasting, spend allocation optimization, marketing incrementality, or attribution
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first within the United States, with optional collaboration from offices in Columbus, Austin, the Bay Area, or New York City - Quarterly team onsites of two to four consecutive days to build in-person connection - Anticipated base salary range of $182,300 to $252,500 USD, plus bonus opportunities and quarterly vesting equity - Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and wellness coverage, plus Health Savings Account contributions where eligible - Retirement plan with a company match, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (US only), and life and disability insurance - Paid time off, sick leave, paid holidays, and paid parental leave aligned with local requirements - Annual wellness and productivity allowances, Employee Assistance Program, financial wellness resources, and access to employee resource groups
