Role overview
Lead complex gameplay engineering work for a high-traffic online game, balancing technical leadership with hands-on feature development. The senior engineer will help establish engineering practices, reduce technical debt, and guide the quality of gameplay across products. Work ranges from secure, scalable systems to the fine details of controls, feedback, and polish that shape the player experience.
Responsibilities
- Build gameplay, UI, visual effects, and content features in Lua/Luau. - Lead features from concept through implementation, testing, polish, and deployment. - Define engineering best practices and reduce technical debt. - Design server-authoritative systems with validation that resists client-side exploitation. - Diagnose and optimize systems operating across thousands of concurrent servers. - Set a high bar for responsive controls, effective feedback, and intuitive UX.
Requirements
- Strong Lua/Luau engineering skills and experience delivering polished gameplay. - Ability to lead complex projects and guide engineering standards. - Sound judgment around system security, validation, and reliability. - Experience debugging and optimizing systems at significant concurrency. - Must be at least 18 and eligible to work in the US or UK.
Nice to have
- Breadth in UI/UX, game design, graphics, audio, visual effects, or modeling and texturing. - A portfolio of shipped work, playable examples, videos, or code samples, with clear notes on personal contributions.
