About this role
Role overview
Build and polish gameplay features for a widely played online game, taking ideas from early concept through implementation, testing, and release. The role combines software engineering with creative problem-solving: success depends on code quality as well as intuitive controls, satisfying feedback, and a smooth player experience. Engineers work closely with colleagues across disciplines and can have a direct impact on features used by a large player community.
Responsibilities
- Write clean, performant Lua/Luau for gameplay, interface, visual effects, and content updates. - Own features through concept, implementation, polish, testing, and deployment. - Shape responsive controls, clear feedback, and intuitive user experiences. - Integrate assets and contribute across UI layout, camera work, particles, and other parts of development. - Work with cross-disciplinary teammates to turn ideas into finished player-facing features.
Requirements
- Strong Lua/Luau programming ability and care for code quality and performance. - Creative judgment and attention to game feel and user experience. - Ability to take ownership, collaborate, and deliver work through release. - Interest in learning unfamiliar systems and contributing beyond a narrow specialty. - Must be at least 18 and eligible to work in the US or UK.
Nice to have
- Depth in one or more areas such as UI/UX, game design, graphics, audio, visual effects, or modeling and texturing. - Portfolio material such as shipped work, playable projects, videos, or code samples; applicants are encouraged to explain their individual contributions.
Benefits and work setup
- Full-time, 40-hour-per-week remote role for candidates based in the US or UK. - Compensation varies by location; the source gives example ranges of $60,000–$110,000 USD in Dallas and £40,000–£65,000 GBP in London. It also describes a signing bonus, a four-year-vested cash bonus, an annual studio bonus, and employee benefits.
