Role overview
A data engineering position focused on owning the end-to-end data platform for a cloud-native SaaS product. The work spans change data capture replication out of MySQL into a cloud warehouse, building transformation layers, managing infrastructure as code, and shaping analytics models. The platform powers reporting for thousands of customer tenants plus internal operations and finance metrics.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve platform foundations (project structure, environments, permissions, documentation) that enable others to ship transformation work safely - Establish and maintain standards for dbt-style development, including testing strategy, source freshness checks, documentation, and code review practices - Improve CDC replication from MySQL into the warehouse, and build tooling for backfills, drift detection, and source-to-warehouse reconciliation - Partner with analytics and finance teams to define and deliver trusted metrics and dashboards in a BI tool - Develop and optimize analytical data models in BigQuery, applying ELT best practices for testing, documentation, and versioning - Design and maintain scalable pipelines in Python and containerized jobs on Kubernetes-based orchestration, ensuring quality, observability, and cost efficiency
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with deep data platform exposure - Strong programming skills in Python and solid SQL skills with experience in analytical data modeling - Hands-on experience with BigQuery or a comparable cloud data warehouse - Production experience with dbt (dbt Labs), including building models directly - Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred) and a major cloud platform (GCP preferred) - Familiarity with Kubernetes-based orchestration (e.g., Argo Workflows), Looker/LookML, and change data capture patterns
