Job details
About this role
Role overview This is a part-time, remote contractor opportunity for an experienced data and product professional to serve as a virtual mentor for learners in an online data-product-management program. The mentor's mission is to help students progress through project-based coursework by combining subject-matter expertise with community guidance. Work is performed virtually on a flexible schedule that must accommodate an existing primary job.
Responsibilities - Respond to learner questions in an online community forum, unblocking students who are stuck on course content and reinforcing key concepts. - Host one weekly live virtual session that gives a cohort direct, real-time access to guidance and feedback. - Facilitate discussion and group activities that build an engaged, supportive learning community. - Redirect learners to the right support channels when an issue is outside the mentor's scope, and escalate edge cases to the program operations team. - Share practical, real-world context that connects coursework to how data product work is actually done in industry.
Requirements - At least seven years of relevant industry experience, or a master's degree in a related field. - Fluency in written and spoken English. - Strong technical grounding in statistics, data wrangling, visualization and storytelling, product KPIs, data pipelines, and data modeling and storage. - Working knowledge of experiment design, including A/B and multivariate testing, plus statistical inference and common product-management frameworks such as RICE and iterative design. - Familiarity with product development, rapid prototyping, user-centered design, product strategy, go-to-market strategy, and basic SQL. - Demonstrated ability to teach technical concepts and speak publicly, for example through webinars, technical talks, or training sessions. - Flexibility to take on a part-time external engagement alongside current employment.
Nice to have - Prior completion of a Nanodegree-style immersive program in a related subject area. - A positive, approachable style that helps build trust and emotional connection within a learner group.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote, virtual engagement compatible with other professional commitments. - Opportunity to earn supplemental income while staying current with emerging data and product practices. - Direct involvement with an international community of adult learners.
