Senior Backend Engineer (Europe)

Role overview

A senior backend engineer is needed to help shape and grow both the open source and cloud versions of a platform used to run production AI agents and workflows. The managed cloud service auto-scales customer code from zero to high throughput, currently handling hundreds of millions of monthly executions for thousands of teams building AI applications. This is a high-impact role that blends hands-on engineering with strategic influence on architecture and roadmap.

Responsibilities

- Design and ship SDK and platform features end-to-end, from API surface through production rollout - Develop database schemas and data models that hold up as usage scales - Tune query performance and shape efficient data access patterns - Build backend systems that meet production standards for reliability, throughput, and durability - Design and implement API endpoints and services that handle real customer traffic - Apply security best practices as a default in every piece of work shipped - Implement observability tooling for monitoring, logging, and rapid debugging - Contribute to architectural decisions and help shape where the platform goes next

Requirements

- Deep expertise in Node.js and TypeScript - Strong background with Postgres and Redis, including schema design, query tuning, and production operation - Hands-on cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure - Comfort participating in an on-call rotation as part of shared reliability ownership - Willingness to attend in-person team events throughout the year

Nice to have

- Proven track record of contributing to open source projects - Prior experience founding a venture-backed startup - Familiarity with React, ideally Remix - Background designing developer-facing SDKs - Work on high-throughput systems at scale - Self-managed Kubernetes experience - Linux fluency - OpenTelemetry or broader observability tooling experience - Background at a developer tools company - Go programming experience
