Role overview A senior engineering role on a team building foundational technology for a rapidly expanding retail vertical, with a focus on large-scale customers such as grocery chains and convenience store operators. The position pairs deep technical decision-making with frequent, direct engagement with operators in the field to understand workflows and ship the right product for the market.
Responsibilities - Work closely with engineering and product leads to identify high-impact opportunities in the retail domain. - Plan, scope, and prototype solutions end-to-end, considering the full feature rather than a single layer of the stack. - Make technical decisions that lay the foundation for the future of the retail platform, including integrations and back-office tooling. - Engage directly with customers through store visits and operator conversations to validate needs and stay ahead of industry trends. - Ship AI-native experiences powered by internal AI capabilities to deliver differentiated customer value.
Requirements - 6+ years of experience building and shipping production software to customers. - Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or another object-oriented programming language. - A growth mindset with a focus on continuous learning and team improvement. - Comfort with ambiguity and a startup-style approach to prioritization. - Flexibility to move between different tech stacks and languages as projects demand. - Familiarity with testing methodologies and frameworks.
Nice to have - Experience working with enterprise-scale retail, grocery, or convenience-store customers. - Demonstrated interest in applying AI tooling to accelerate engineering work.
Benefits and work setup - US-based remote, Boston hybrid, or New York hybrid, with Eastern Time preferred. - Base salary ranges vary by geographic zone, with the highest band between $159,000 and $254,000 USD and additional cash compensation, equity, and benefits available. - Hybrid model that fosters in-person collaboration while valuing individual flexibility.
