Product Engineering Lead (QVAC)

Role overview Lead the engineering teams responsible for the features and app experience of a privacy focused AI assistant that runs locally on users’ devices. You’ll set the engineering approach and quality bar while partnering with product on priorities, translating the capabilities and limits of on device AI into useful, dependable consumer features. The role combines engineering leadership with substantial product collaboration.

Responsibilities - Guide app and feature teams day to day, resolve blockers, review work, and support steady delivery. - Own technical designs and the API boundary between the app and the AI core. - Maintain high standards for performance, reliability, and clear interfaces. - Coordinate closely with AI research and deep technology teams on designs, code reviews, and model or inference related work. - Work with product managers to scope roadmap ideas, challenge unrealistic plans, and propose workable alternatives. - Set clear team goals, mentor team leads, and adjust your involvement as teams gain ownership.

Requirements - Experience managing engineers or engineering leads delivering consumer products; AI powered apps are particularly relevant. - Strong product judgment and ability to distinguish useful features from unnecessary complexity. - Practical understanding of on device AI constraints, including model size, latency, memory, and battery use. - Regular use of AI tools and interest in trying emerging models and capabilities. - Deep JavaScript and React experience. - Initiative, resilience, curiosity, and comfort giving and receiving direct feedback.

Nice to have Experience with local inference, LLM evaluation, cross platform mobile or desktop apps, or open source projects.
