Remote job
Design Verification Engineer, Processor Pipelines
Job details
About this role
Role overview Own verification of processor pipeline integration, where bugs can arise from interactions among execution units, control logic, and instruction sequences. As the first dedicated verification engineer, you will shape the verification approach, build its foundations, and work with designers early enough to influence the design.
Responsibilities - Verify pipeline hazards, forwarding, exceptions, flushes, and interactions between execution units and surrounding control. - Create the verification environment, including testbenches, reference models, coverage, regressions, and supporting infrastructure. - Choose where constrained-random testing or formal methods are appropriate, and explain the tradeoffs. - Partner with designers during development, raising verification concerns while changes are still practical. - Assess what coverage demonstrates, identify remaining gaps, and make explicit decisions about verification scope.
Requirements - Production verification experience with processors or complex digital designs, including at least one tape-out. - Strong SystemVerilog and UVM skills, or a clear rationale for using a different approach. - Hands-on coverage closure experience and sound judgment about the limits of coverage metrics. - Persistence in investigating designs that appear correct. - Ability to use AI tools thoughtfully and check generated output for correctness.
Nice to have - Formal verification experience, such as property proving, equivalence checking, or bounded model checking. - Experience establishing a verification practice where one did not previously exist. - Ability to explain what coverage results establish—and what they do not—to colleagues.
Benefits and work setup The role is remote within the United States, with several hours of daily overlap with Pacific time. Remote employees should expect about one week per month on site during the first year; travel and standard accommodation are covered. Relocation support may be available. The position is exempt and includes paid time off, access to available health plans and retirement benefits, and a possible equity opportunity during negotiation. The first months focus on bringing up verification for a real block and finding an unexpected issue.
