Remote job
Senior Software Engineer - Pricing
Job details
About this role
Role overview Join the Pricing squad, the engineering team behind the pricing engine at the heart of a modern utility product that prices real energy contracts for businesses buying electricity and renewable generators selling it. This is a backend, data-heavy engineering role with a quantitative flavour, focused on building a new Pricing API that is fast, accurate and explainable. Correctness shows up as money and speed shows up as trust, so the work sits at the intersection of engineering, data and product.
Responsibilities - Design and ship core slices of the new Pricing API, taking them from first design through to production. - Consolidate pricing logic into a single service with a clean boundary while keeping pricing behaviour stable throughout the move. - Build detection and alerting that catches bad or slow prices before they reach a customer. - Give the commercial team self-serve answers to questions about pricing failures and unpriceable contracts. - Reduce time to first customer price measurably for every quote without sacrificing accuracy. - Take turns handling live pricing incidents and turn what you learn into structural fixes.
Requirements - Production backend Python: you have shipped and run an API in production and been on the hook when it broke. - Comfortable with FastAPI and SQL, and with data- and analytics-heavy systems where numerical correctness matters. - Product engineering instinct: you ask what the price is for and who reads it, not just how to compute it. - AI-native workflow: tools like Claude are part of your daily process for writing, testing and reviewing code. - Ability to own a project end to end, from scoping and delivery to quality, with a tech lead as a sounding board rather than a supervisor.
Nice to have - Domain knowledge from fintech, energy pricing, neo-utilities or ad-tech. - Experience working inside or alongside machine learning teams. - AWS and serverless patterns such as Lambda, event-driven services and Postgres on RDS. - Familiarity with Polars or a taste for making numerical code fast.
Benefits and work setup - Stock options so team members share in the mission. - 25 days holiday plus public holidays, with the option to swap public holidays and take your birthday off. - Remote-first and flexible working with clear core hours and no internal meetings on Friday afternoons. - Annual remote setup allowance and a monthly wellbeing allowance.
