About this role
Role overview Maintain the performance, availability, security, and integrity of databases used by mission-critical systems. The work spans managed relational and NoSQL services across cloud environments, combining database operations and tuning with automation, resilience planning, and close support for engineering teams.
Responsibilities - Design, provision, configure, and operate managed SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and related cloud services. - Monitor database health and performance, investigate slow queries, and tune indexes, parameters, storage, and scaling. - Establish backup, snapshot, replication, restore, and disaster recovery practices for resilient data services. - Protect data with encryption, access controls, retention policies, and security or compliance audits. - Support database changes through schema migration practices, versioning, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code in collaboration with platform and data teams. - Communicate operational risks, escalate issues appropriately, and share knowledge with colleagues.
Requirements - Practical experience administering managed database services in cloud environments; experience with AWS or OCI is relevant to the stated scope. - Experience with relational and NoSQL systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra. - Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation. - Skills in monitoring, automation, and performance tuning, using tools such as Performance Insights, query statistics, metrics, or Prometheus/Grafana. - Ability to work independently, take technical ownership, and collaborate with a service-oriented mindset. - Clear written and spoken English; a related degree is preferred, with equivalent professional experience also valued.
Nice to have - Arabic language proficiency, especially for client-facing or regional work. - Experience applying managed database capabilities to security and compliance requirements such as PCI DSS, GDPR, or SOC 2.
