Remote job
Forward Deployed Engineer (Applications)
Job details
About this role
Role overview
This position sits at the intersection of engineering and product, serving as the shortest feedback loop in the organization. The mission is to model a new business domain roughly once a month, build a complete application on the internal low-code platform, and then deliberately stress it to surface real weaknesses. The work directly shapes the platform's roadmap, since each app answers a question no roadmap can: does the platform actually hold up for this domain?
Responsibilities
- Design and build full applications across genuinely different domains such as healthcare, commerce, logistics, field operations, and finance, working through AI-native editors and the in-platform app studio - Stress-test multi-tenancy, role-based access control, edge-case state, and integrations (including connectors that return success codes with no data) to find where the platform gives way - File detailed, diagnostic bug reports rather than complaints, each tied to a reproducible issue and a clear direction for the platform team - Produce reference implementations and demos that other developers study and that prospective customers see first - Track recurring pain points across multiple projects and relay those patterns to engineering with enough evidence to drive fixes
Requirements
- At least two years of experience building complete applications end to end, including front end, back end, data modeling, and deployment; agency, freelance, and self-taught backgrounds are welcome - Demonstrated range across more than one business domain, with genuine comfort during the first week of a new one - Strong data modeling skills, since a new domain's model is built roughly every month and the model is where the app lives or dies - Daily fluency with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot, including a clear sense of when to stop trusting their output - Working knowledge of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), client-side at minimum - A tester's instinct: the ability to design and execute scenarios that expose failure modes
Nice to have
- Experience presenting applications to non-technical audiences or as customer-facing demos - Background in QA, red-teaming, or chaos engineering practices
Benefits and work setup
- The role opens natural progression paths into platform engineering, solutions leadership as the customer base grows, or product management - Work spans a wide aperture between core engineering and platform users, offering broad exposure across the organization
