Remote job
SDK Engineer - Python
Job details
About this role
Role overview Own the design and ongoing development of a Python client library that gives developers access to a broad backend platform, including database, authentication, storage, realtime, and function capabilities. The work spans synchronous and asynchronous APIs, public open-source maintenance, and close coordination with teams responsible for the underlying services. You’ll help make the library reliable and idiomatic across the environments where Python developers use it, from services and data pipelines to notebooks and AI tools.
Responsibilities - Build and maintain the SDK’s service coverage and sync and async interfaces. - Improve typing, packaging, compatibility, and test coverage across Python versions and execution environments. - Triage public issues, review contributions, maintain CI and release automation, and communicate scope decisions constructively. - Keep the SDK aligned with changes to platform services, and document releases and migration paths. - Design and explain API changes through public proposals, guides, release notes, and documentation for both people and AI coding tools. - Develop realtime behavior, including websocket lifecycle, reconnection, subscriptions, and presence.
Requirements - Deep knowledge of modern Python typing, including generics, protocols, overloads, and TypedDict, and experience with strict type checking. - Experience authoring or maintaining a published library with users outside your organization. - Familiarity with open-source maintenance, release practices, semantic versioning, and handling security reports and feature requests. - Strong asyncio skills and considered approaches to supporting both synchronous and asynchronous callers. - Knowledge of Python library packaging, wheels, modern tooling, and dependency and version support policies. - A testing habit that includes unit, type-level, and end-to-end checks, along with clear technical writing and communication.
Nice to have - Experience leading a major-version migration, working with JWT or OAuth, building AI agent integrations, or generating clients from a schema. - Experience on asynchronous or distributed teams.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote, global work with a coworking membership or allowance and flexible asynchronous hours. - Equity, a technology setup allowance, health coverage for employees and partial dependent coverage, and an annual learning allowance. - Annual company gatherings.
