OrioleDB Deployment Engineer (AMER)

Role overview This role sits on the team responsible for an open-source Postgres-based development platform, packaging and shipping a specialized database distribution to customers at scale. The position owns release engineering, packaging infrastructure, and CI/CD quality for a database product that serves a large developer community.

Responsibilities - Package database software into a public Postgres repository using Nix with flakes, transitioning packaging from traditional approaches over time. - Manage release lifecycles for major versions, minor versions, and extensions, ensuring timely upgrades. - Expand platform release systems so internal developers can increasingly self-service. - Optimize CI/CD pipelines, including GitHub Actions, team tooling, and testing and release workflows. - Resolve production issues by proactively identifying and fixing problems in customer deployments. - Maintain best practices and tests that improve stability and reduce deployment risk. - Co-own the integration of the database engine into the broader managed platform.

Requirements - 3+ years of experience with PostgreSQL and its ecosystem, including extensions and performance optimization. - Strong infrastructure background in management, tooling, and optimization. - Proficiency with the Nix package management system including flakes, plus Ansible, Packer, Docker, QEMU/KVM, AWS, and Kubernetes. - Experience building for multiple architectures, specifically Linux and Darwin/macOS aarch64 targets. - Comfort working in polyglot build environments spanning C/C++, Go, JavaScript, and Rust projects. - Clear communication with both technical and non-technical audiences, including customers. - Experience working asynchronously or within globally distributed teams, with independent and proactive problem-solving. - Willingness to mentor teammates on Nix-based workflows.
